Friday, October 2nd

  • 11:00 am Desert Trees for Your Home Landscape
    Trees can provide many benefits in your home landscapes, but selecting the right tree for your location is key to providing those benefits and success. Katie will review the wonderful selections of desert-adapted trees and how to select the right trees for your space.
  • 12:00 pm Smart Shopping at the Garden Center
    Wondering which garden products are worth your time and money? We will talk about products you might need (or not!) and what some of the confusing labels mean! Join us to learn how to spend your money wisely wherever you shop for garden products!
  • 1:00 pm Landscaping on Easy Street: 3 Keys to a Low Maintenance Landscape
    Would you like to have a beautiful landscape AND spend less time AND spend less money? Join us to learn about selecting plants that will do great here in the desert, planting them in the right place in your landscape and caring for them so they thrive and bloom. It’s easier than you think! We will have tips and resources for you whether you like to DIY or choose to hire a landscape professional.
  • 2:00 pm Planting for Spring Vegetable Harvest
    Is it time to think about spring already? Yes, if you want to have a bountiful harvest! Learn how to plant ahead for lots of delicious spring vegetables with Master Gardener Helen Baird.
  • 3:00 pm Winter Rose Pruning
    Learn how to prepare your roses for beautiful spring blooms with rosarian Helen Baird. We will discuss pruning of rose bushes in January in order to get the best blooms in April. There will also be discussion on mulching and other steps to prepare your roses for spring.

    New to AZ? New home? Get tips to better landscape your yard year-round, including where to find/how to water trees & plants for our desert environment. It IS different!
  • 1:00 pm Container Gardening
    We can plant and harvest something fresh to eat every day of every month here in the low desert! If you are short on space, try growing in containers. Learn the basics of container selection, and planting.
  • 2:00 pm Winter Salad Bed
    Want to grow a winter garden? Why not try growing your own winter salads? You don’t have to wait until spring to start your garden, you can begin growing your own salad ingredients such as lettuce, greens, carrots, radishes, and other vegetables.
  • 3:00pm Year -Round Strategies for Desert-Adapted Trees
    Learn what to do and what to avoid throughout the year to keep your desert-adapted trees thriving from planting to maturity. This session will focus on tree selection and proper pruning to maximize shade coverage so you can enjoy your outdoor living spaces.

This presentation showcases versatile species that bridge home and landscape, with practical guidance on care, placement, and design to make your greenery flourish in every space. From sun‑loving succulents to shade‑tolerant greenery, you’ll discover practical tips for care and design that make your plants flourish—no matter which side of the window they’re on.
  • 1:00 pm Unwelcome Visitors: Invasive and Other Problem Plants to Avoid and Eliminate
    Not all plants are good neighbors. Learn which ones don’t belong in your garden and what to do about it.
